Emma Raducanu’s ‘realistic’ 2025 WTA Rankings target set by Tim Henman

Emma Raducanu’s ‘realistic’ 2025 WTA Rankings target set by Tim Henman

According to Tim Henman, Emma Raducanu needs to improve in one key area if she is to continue climbing the WTA rankings in 2025.

After a break due to injury in the second half of last season Raducan When she returned in early 2024, she was ranked 301st in the rankings.

There were plenty of encouraging signs for the 2021 US Open winner as she reached the fourth round at Wimbledon, the Nottingham Open semifinals, as well as several quarterfinals.

After returning to the top 100 after Wimbledon, Raducanu finished the year in 58th place.

But the 22-year-old will also be the first to admit it was another stop-start match as she has only played 13 games WTA tournament events as she was forced to miss several tournaments due to injuries, most notably most of the Asian swing after injuring her foot at the Korea Open.

Former British No. 1 Henman believes she needs to “build resilience” if she wants to climb higher in the rankings next year.

Raducanu debuted at No. 10 in the WTA rankings in July 2022, and Henman believes a top-30 finish is a “realistic” goal for 2025.

“I think the challenge for Raducan is physical resilience,” the former world No. 4 said on the Sky Sports Tennis podcast.

“You’re talking about Katie Boulter and all the improvements she’s made. Yes, she has improved as a tennis player, her movement has improved, but it also requires the resilience to be able to play a full schedule.

“You saw Katie at the end of the year playing in four or five tournaments in a row. At the last event of the year, she reached the finals in Hong Kong and finished in the top 25.

“Raducanu had a good year, going from number 300 to top 60, but looking at the amount of tennis she played, it turns out she didn’t play much. If she gains this resilience, she will play good tennis every time she steps on the court.

“That’s why I think top 50, top 30 in 2025 is completely realistic.”

Raducanu, who finished this year with a 23-13 record, recently admitted that one of her main goals for next year is to “stay on the court longer.”

“I thought I started the year pretty well for the first half, you know, until Wimbledon. Then I struggled a little more with my body, I think physically. I wasn’t able to play the entire calendar and stay on the court as long as I would like,” she admitted.

“But for me, you know, sometimes I need a reminder, I’m in the top 60 in the world and I’ve played less than 15 tournaments, which is kind of unheard of.

“I have to pat myself on the back for that. I know I’m a dangerous player. I know no one wants to draw my name in a drawing. I’m proud of it and I can’t wait to stay on the court longer next year.”
