Drones spotted again over three US air bases in the UK | UK news

Several drones have been spotted again over three UK air bases used by the US Air Force.

A spokesman said US military units continued to monitor the airspace over RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk and RAF Feltwell in Norfolk on Tuesday after unmanned aircraft were spotted overnight.

The drones were not identified as hostile.

The RAF is understood to assist in checking the airspace and ensuring the safety of locations.

“I can confirm that the situation persists and our units continue to monitor the airspace and cooperate with host nation authorities and mission partners to ensure the safety of base personnel, facilities and assets,” said a spokesman for U.S. Air Forces in Europe.

“To ensure operational security, we do not discuss specific force protection measures, but we retain the right to protect our installations.”

Development comes later drones have been spotted before from Wednesday to Friday last week over the same three air bases – a very unusual phenomenon.

These drones were also not identified as hostile. It is understood the drones had no impact on residents or infrastructure at the bases.

The U.S. Air Force said at the time that it was unclear whether the drones were considered hostile.

The Royal Air Force has been contacted for comment.
