The deputy involved in the fatal shooting of a suspect in Rochester has been identified

ROCHESTER, Ind. (WNDU) – One of two law enforcement officers police say were involved in this crime fatal shooting of a suspect over the weekend in Rochester was identified.

The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office says Senior Deputy Ryan Haney fired his weapon in response to a domestic disturbance in the 800 block of Monroe Street Saturday morning.

According to police, Steven Harding, 37, of Rochester, pointed a gun at Senior Deputy Haney and another officer as they were responding to the call. That’s when they reportedly fired at least once and hit Harding. He died of his injuries on the spot.

Indiana State Police are investigating. Once completed, it will be reviewed by the Fulton County Attorney’s Office.

Chief Deputy Haney and a second officer have been placed on administrative leave until further notice.

At this time, the identity of the second officer involved in the incident has not been established.
