Kansas man stabbed 17-year-old Fleet Farm employee before fleeing: charges

A Kansas resident was charged stabbed a 17-year-old employee at a fleet farm in Carver, Minnesota.

Gerald Dwayne Hudson, 30, was charged Tuesday with first-degree assault causing serious bodily injury and second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon for his alleged role in the stabbing.

What happened?

On November 24, the Carver County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a stabbing at Fleet Farm.

Charging documents say the incident was captured on surveillance video and shows a man entering the store just after 2 p.m., passing a female employee in the aisle, then looking both ways and returning to her.

With the employee’s back turned to him, the charges say Hudson made a “striking movement” towards her neck before running into the parking lot before driving away.

The complaint says the girl grabbed her by the neck and the customer reported hearing her loudly scream “he just stabbed me.”

Law enforcement said the teen suffered a “2-3 inch laceration” to the back of her neck and the injury resulted from being stabbed with a “sharp, elongated object.”

The girl told authorities she didn’t know who the man was. Court records show she was transported to the hospital in critical but stable condition.

In his words

The sheriff’s office said law enforcement located his vehicle in Chanhassen and conducted a high-risk traffic stop, and he was ultimately taken into custody.

Recounting the incident, Hudson allegedly told authorities that he asked the girl where something was in the store and “maybe she said something that didn’t sound right to me,” before picking up the “thing” and allegedly hitting the girl with it.

“There was no deadly weapon involved like a gun, knife, stick or anything like that, there was just a short, little conversation and I just hit her good with a plastic ‘something,’” the complaint states that Hudson allegedly said while in prison.

Law enforcement said no weapon has yet been found.

What’s next?

Hudson is in custody at the Carver County Jail. He is scheduled to appear before a judge on Tuesday morning for a bail hearing.

If convicted of first-degree assault causing great bodily harm, the penalty is up to 20 years in prison and/or a fine of $30,000.
