A TikTok influencer has been arrested for allegedly filming a shoplifting incident

A Florida woman and social media influencer accused of shoplifting $500 worth of items from Target was arrested after police said she was identified from a TikTok video she made of the incident.

A Cape Coral police affidavit says the 22-year-old woman allegedly stole items by scanning fake barcodes at lower prices than what she purchased at the self-checkout counter at a Target store in Cape Coral, Florida on October 30. Department.

Police said they identified a woman who posted daily content on TikTok about her life and personal habits and had nearly 300,000 followers on the social media platform – the account has since grown to more than 360,000 followers as of November 26 – after being seen a video in which she documented a trip to Target on the day of the theft and picked up the same items that were stolen.

Cape Coral police responded to Target on November 20 and, based on the store’s loss prevention department and security camera footage, confirmed that a woman wearing brown pants, a brown shirt and glasses had stolen a total of 16 items of merchandise and clothing worth $500. $32. according to Fort Myers News Press.

Police posted a photo taken from the woman’s store on the department’s social media pages asking for possible leads, and shortly thereafter received an anonymous tip from someone who provided their name, date of birth and the name of an Instagram influencer.

The department then found her TikTok account, as well as incriminating video documenting her trip to Target on Oct. 30 wearing the same outfit and glasses as the suspect in the security camera footage.

According to the police, the woman was arrested and charged with petty theft.

Court documentation for Lee County, Florida show she has been released on bond and her arraignment is scheduled for December 10.
