The prosecutor’s office charged a 19-year-old man with the murder of four people whom he allegedly shot in his Lancaster home and then set the residence on fire to cover his tracks.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday that Miguel Diego Sandoval has been charged with the shooting death of 24-year-old Edwin Garcia; Matthew Montebello, 23; and siblings Janvi Maquindang, 24, and Christine Aca-ac, 29, in the early morning of November 16. He allegedly broke into the home while the victims were sleeping and shot them with a gun around 1:30 a.m.

According to prosecutors, Sandoval then set the house on fire to cover up his crimes. Although Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies rescued Montebello from the burning house, he later died in the hospital from his injuries. Garcia, Manquindang and Aca-ac died at the scene, and another victim, described as a teenager, was home at the time of the killings but was not injured.

Prosecutors charged Sandoval with four counts of murder, one count of first-degree burglary of a habitation in the presence of a person and one count of arson of an inhabited structure or property. Authorities also say the allegations say Sandoval intentionally killed victims while lying in wait and committed multiple murders.

Sandoval is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 27 for arraignment. He is being held without bail and, if convicted of the charges against him, faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Investigators did not reveal the motive for the murder, but it was reported by the victims’ relatives news station KTLA that Sandoval he was one of my roommate’s ex-boyfriends.
