Police found no signs of criminal activity after two students approached an Oakland County bus stop

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Michigan. – The Bloomfield Township Police Department identified a man who approached two middle school students at a bus stop and determined no criminal activity was taking place.

In a news release Tuesday afternoon, police said a man who allegedly approached two South Hills Middle School students at a school bus stop near Spruce and Cathedral drives has been located and questioned.

Following an investigation, police concluded that there was “no indication that any criminal activity had taken place.”

“The man was interviewed by our officers and following a thorough investigation there is no indication that any criminal activity has taken place. We would like to express our appreciation for the vigilance shown by students who immediately reported the situation to a trusted adult, and to the community for providing information that led to a quick resolution of the incident. We continue to work closely with the school district to ensure the safety of our students and community.”

Background

At approximately 3:45 p.m. on Monday, November 25, a man in a pickup truck allegedly approached two students at a bus stop near Spruce and Cathedral streets and asked them if they wanted a ride. According to police, the students did not react and went home.

Bloomfield Township police worked with the school district to investigate.

“The Bloomfield Township Police Department commends these students for being vigilant about their surroundings and reporting the situation to a trusted adult. We are working closely with the school district regarding this incident and our school resource officers are investigating the matter. The Bloomfield Township Police Department will continue to provide an additional presence in our schools. We remind our community to remain vigilant of their surroundings. Do not engage anyone who approaches you or your children in an inappropriate manner and call 911 immediately. We ask parents to remind their children of stranger danger and to contact a trusted adult if something is not right.”
