Ryan Day started a few games in place of Urban Meyer in 2018. Meyer decided to leave Ohio State following that season, and Day became the Buckeyes’ full-time head coach beginning the 2019 campaign.

While Day had some success in the following years, most notably an appearance in the College Football Playoff national championship in January 2021, he struggled with the most important game on Ohio State’s schedule.

The Buckeyes are 1-3 v. Michigan under Day, and the Wolverines won their final three regular-season matchups.

“We felt what it was like not to win this match. And that’s bad” Day said. “Honestly, it’s one of the worst things that’s ever happened to me. Apart from losing my father and a few other things, it’s honestly the worst thing that’s ever happened to my family. So we can never have it happen again, ever. And that’s been the approach throughout the season.
