Michigan man charged with poaching deer on private property

LANSING, Mich. – An Otsego County man is accused of poaching deer on private property.

The suspect, 59-year-old Cecil Edward Day of Johannesburg, was arrested on November 18 after the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reported that he had left his car with a gun and shot a deer.

We were told two more deer were shot and abandoned nearby. One of them was the nine-point dollar.

The DNR says Day was arraigned a day later on charges of possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, possession of a weapon with a blood alcohol content above the legal limit and failure to wear hunter orange.

Day was reportedly convicted from 2018 to 2020 of felony possession of a firearm, trespassing, removing a deer from a vehicle, failure to wear hunting orange and possession of an untagged deer.

The DNR encourages Michigan hunters to review hunting regulations in their area website.
