Aurielle Green, the boy’s mother, spoke to Denver7 on Monday after learning that her son had been found safe and sound. She said her son is very smart, artistic, shy and loves dinosaurs.

“It’s my baby,” she said. “He’s the sweetest kid you’ll ever meet, literally… I just want to hold him and never let him go.”

She said the man wounded in Monday’s shooting was the father of her child and Denmon was his ex-girlfriend.

On Tuesday morning, Denmon appeared in court for her first counseling session. She appeared in an orange prison outfit.

In the courtroom, the prosecutor said Denmon shot the boy’s father in the chest, stole his phone and took the child from the apartment. Just before that, she had threatened a man in the apartment, which, according to the prosecutor’s office, was recorded on camera. At the time of the shooting, Denmon was prohibited from contacting the boy’s father, they said. He repeatedly told her to stay away from him. He added that the man is still in the hospital, unconscious and connected to a breathing tube. Police said Monday that he is expected to recover. The prosecutor’s office added that Denmon had just had a hearing on November 15 in connection with a case in which she allegedly attacked the man’s girlfriend with brass knuckles.

The prosecutor’s office asked for a $500,000 cash bail, which the defense argued was unconstitutional because Denmon could not afford it. Her lawyer asked for $20,000 bail.

At the end of Tuesday’s hearing, the judge issued a protective order for both the boy and his father, which prevented Denmon from contacting them in any capacity. The judge, recognizing the concern for the safety of the victim and the community, set cash bail at $500,000. Denmon’s next hearing is scheduled for December 4, when the judge will read the charges against her.

Denver7 received a statement Tuesday morning announcing Denmon’s arrest. Although Denmon has not yet been formally charged, the document lists the charges she faces, which include attempted first-degree murder, first-degree burglary with a weapon, menacing, false imprisonment, violation of a protection order and first-degree kidnapping (no injury). . The First Judicial District Attorney’s Office will determine the final charges against her.

According to her arrest affidavit, Jefferson County authorities received a 911 call around 6:10 a.m. Monday. The caller – who was not identified – said he received a video from a redacted person “showing a black woman pointing a gun at (redacted) … and threatening to shoot him.” This woman was later identified as Denmon.

As a result of this call, Lakewood Police responded to the 1700 block of Kendall Street. The statement says that while they were on the scene, “the (apartment) door opened and they heard someone screaming for help.”

Police found a man “suffering from an apparent gunshot wound” lying near the door, the statement said. Officers found a shell casing in one of the apartment’s bedrooms, but no one else was found. The statement says they also did not find any cell phones or firearms. Police have not yet determined whether the shooter was Denmon or someone else.

While police were helping the injured man, a neighbor told them there had been a boy at his house the night before. Police noticed that one of the bedrooms was intended for a child. On Monday, police said they believe Denmon kidnapped the boy and fled the scene.

According to the statement, the man was transported to the hospital, where doctors confirmed that he had a gunshot wound to the chest.

During the investigation, police identified the woman in the video as Denmon. They confirmed that the video was recorded just after 6 a.m. on Monday.

“In the recording, Crystal holds a black handgun and a male voice, presumably (redacted), tells Crystal that he has been holding him hostage for hours and repeatedly asks Crystal to leave his apartment, which she refuses,” he added. the statement reads.

They also learned from a document check that Denmon had a protection order and was prohibited from contacting the man or possessing any firearms.

A Lakewood detective called Denmon’s cell phone and when she answered, she confirmed that the missing boy was with her and that he still had the gun. She told the detective she “would not release (the child) because having him kept her safe,” the affidavit said. Detectives repeatedly asked her to release the boy.

At the time of writing the statement, Lakewood police said Denmon was still on the run and was somewhere in the eastern plains of Colorado. At one point, the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) noticed Denmon was driving, but she refused to stop for them, according to the affidavit. Because she had a missing child in her car, CSP did not pursue her car. Instead, they “went on surveillance,” lost the car near Cheraw in Otero County – at which point an AMBER alert was issued – and found it again on County Road 59 south of Limon.

At 3:45 p.m., the child and Denmon were found near Last Chance, about 80 miles from Lakewood. The child was brought back to the Denver metro area and reunited with her family.

“It was like a burden had been lifted and I could just thank God, praising Hallelujah because God is good and I am so happy now that I want to jump up and down again. Thank God,” said the boy’s grandmother, Stephanie Vaughn-Green. “I want to thank all professionals, detectives and police officers. I mean, you know, they were one in a million and I’m very grateful to them today.”
