This is the second time in the last month when someone died at this intersection.

Just after 5 p.m. Monday evening, Schaumburg police said Cicero, 65, was driving eastbound on Algonquin Road and had a green light when 12-year-old Angela Guan entered the road against the traffic light.

According to the police, three people from the area immediately provided help, but the woman was taken to hospital, where she died of her injuries.

“I have daughters myself and I just can’t imagine what her parents are going through right now, you know, something as simple as going to 7-Eleven and eating a snack and then, you know, never coming home. It hits you, you know, if you feel it,” said Bodega Barber Lounge owner Thomas Beltran.

Beltran opened his store less than six months ago and has already witnessed two fatal collisions just steps from his business.

Meanwhile, Community Consolidated School District 15 released the following statement:

“Our District 15 community is devastated by the devastating death of a Plum Grove Middle School seventh-grader who was tragically struck by a vehicle in Schaumburg and unfortunately did not survive. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the student’s family, friends, classmates, teachers, staff and everyone affected by this tragedy.”

Schaumburg police said the man driving the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.

There is no indication he was impaired, although toxicology reports are pending.
