A 31-year-old man has been charged with a stabbing at Fleet Farm in Carver on Sunday.

Gerald Dwayne Hudson, of Kansas City, Kansas, faces one count of first-degree assault and one count of second-degree assault. Records show Hudson’s bail hearing was held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, where bail was set at $1 million.

As previously reportedCarver County deputies responded to a stabbing at Fleet Farm on Levin Griffin Road on Sunday afternoon.

Before authorities arrived on scene, dispatch reported that the suspect, identified as Hudson, left the scene in a cream-colored SUV.

When officers arrived, they found a 17-year-old employee who had been stabbed in the neck. The complaint says she had a two- to three-inch cut on her neck and had lost a lot of blood.

Court documents filed Tuesday morning show the victim is in critical but stable condition.

A witness, who was a customer at the store, told police he heard screaming and the victim shouting, “He just stabbed me.” The witness also saw Hudson escape.

Surveillance footage shows Hudson entering the store and along the aisle where the victim was located. He is then seen walking past her to the end of the aisle and looking back and forth before returning towards the victim.

According to court documents, the video showed Hudson making a striking motion towards the victim while her back was turned. The victim was then seen holding his neck and leaving the aisle.

As of Tuesday morning, authorities had not found an assault weapon, according to the complaint.

After his arrest, Hudson reportedly made several unwanted comments while in jail, such as: “Me
I didn’t stab anyone, I didn’t have any weapon or anything like that, I just hit someone” and “There wasn’t any deadly weapon like a gun or a knife or a gun with a stick or anything like that, it was a short, short conversation and I just hit her plastic object.

Court documents say Hudson told investigators that he asked the victim where he could find something in the store and that “maybe she said something that didn’t sound right to me,” so he picked up the “thing” and hit her with it. Hudson also asked the detective interviewing him if he was a homicide detective and asked if the victim had “died.”

Carver County Sheriff’s Deputy Patrick Barry said the incident was unusual.

“It was a surprise,” Barry said. “A little shocked. It’s unusual that we’re dealing with such a random attack.

He says the victim was lucky his injuries weren’t more serious.

“When I saw the pictures of the injury, I figured if you’re a person who believes in miracles, this is definitely one of them,” Barry said. “I think the victim and her family will probably look at Thanksgiving differently this year. He’s very lucky.

Hudson’s next court hearing is scheduled for the morning of December 13.
