Philippine police said Wednesday they have filed a formal complaint against Vice President Sarah Duterte and several of her security personnel over a recent incident in the lower house of Congress.

The complaint alleges direct assault, disobedience and serious coercion during the incident in the lower house and hospital, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said in a statement.

Duterte, the daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte, has been the subject of a heated congressional investigation into the expenses of her office as vice president and education minister, during which she has repeatedly clashed with lawmakers.

“The PNP remains steadfast in its commitment to uphold justice and ensure that all individuals are held accountable under the law, regardless of their position,” said Rommel Police Chief Francisco Marbil.

The complaint is another setback for Duterte after a bitter break in her relationship with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., with whom she ran for office.

Duterte was furious over the lower house detention of her adviser, who also faces investigation. The midfielder was later shifted to a government hospital for medical attention.

On Saturday, Duterte said she had ordered an assassin to kill the president, his wife and the speaker of the Philippine House if she herself was killed, prompting a rebuke from Marcos.

On Tuesday, Philippine legal officials summoned Duterte for questioning over his testimony. She stated that her words were twisted to create a false narrative of an active threat to Marcos’ life, calling her remarks a “conditional act of revenge.”
