‘Suicide pod’ creator breaks silence on ‘exactly what happened’ in first death using device – World News

The creator of the Sarco capsule, a device that allows a passenger to take their own life, spoke out after its first use in Switzerland, sparking controversy.

A 64-year-old American woman used a “suicide capsule” on September 23, end his life in Switzerland, and Dr. Florian Willet described her death as “peaceful, quick and dignified.” who was the only person at the scene.

He has since been detained by the police, where he remains several weeks later, while the Dutch media de Volksrant reported that the court heard a “phone note” from a medical examiner suggesting the woman had suffered neck injuries.

The same website reported that a woman who used the Sarco pod said she had considered suicide “for at least two years” after being diagnosed with osteomyelitis of the base of the skull.

She said that no one convinced her to take her own life and that she had previously tried to take her own life in the Swiss group Pegasos.

Speech in a podcast discussing the first use of the Sarco capsule, the device’s creator, Dr. Philip Nitschke, said that “the machine did exactly what it was supposed to do.”

Although he was not at the scene himself, Dr. Nitschke said he “watched” the incident via video feed and therefore knew what happened.

He said: “She entered the pod on her own, when she was ready she pressed the button. The oxygen level dropped, we have documentation of it all.

“She lost consciousness within, we estimate, two minutes and died approximately six minutes later.”

However, he then began to comment on what had happened since then, saying that “we did not expect what has happened since then, and that has made us very concerned.”

“Floriana should be released immediately, he clearly had nothing to do with her death other than allowing her to come, go inside and press the button, which she did herself,” Dr. Nitschke said of his colleague, the only person present at the scene to witness the death .

“She organized and effectively carried out her own death. It was suicide, the only help was Florian’s presence.

As for the comments about neck injuries and allegations that not everything went as described, the creator of the Sarco pod described them as an “absurd suggestion.”

He said: “I think there was a call made in connection with the autopsy.

“When her body was taken for post-mortem, there was a suggestion of a telephone call from someone involved in the post-mortem which suggested that there may have been an external force or trauma, which suggested a neck injury.

“It was all very interesting, it was based on a telephone conversation. There was no autopsy report, I am well aware that a proper report is needed before you start shadow jumping.

“We heard about these injuries and thought, ‘that’s a bit strange,’ because I know exactly what happened to this woman, I was watching.

“She climbed in on her own, the pod did not open and the police were called. If there was any external injury, it must have happened after the police showed up and opened the pod, we have video of the incident.

“She died of hypoxia, as expected, she died within six minutes, as expected.”
