Putin’s crisis as Ukraine ‘prepares to invade Russia’s second region’ | World | News

Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief, General Syrski, who oversaw the successful invasion of Kursk, suggested the possibility of a second attack.

In a conversation with journalists, he said: “We must stop the enemy, but victory will not be possible if Ukrainian forces remain solely on the defensive.

“We have to take the initiative and counterattack – and we will.”

In response, Ukrainian commentator Igor Sushko wrote on X: “UkraineThe Commander-in-Chief, General Syrski, suggested a major counter-offensive was imminent.

“If this is true and not just a feint to confuse the Russians, I would expect another Kursk-style invasion of Russia Russiabut in a different region. Bryansk?”

The dire warning comes as Ukraine experiences continued land loss in the long-contested Donetsk region – an area that has been the focus of Russia’s operations for more than 10 months.

Of course, a counterattack could occur in areas that have already seen heavy fighting, but online speculation by military bloggers points to two other alternatives.

One such scenario is the threat of a bluff intended to warn Russian military planners against deploying troops from other parts of the Donetsk Oblast to help them advance on the logistically crucial city of Pokrovsk.

The second indicates an incursion into the Bryansk Oblast Russiaa key logistics hub for the Russian armed forces.

Bryansk saw one of the first offensive uses of American-supplied missiles as Ukraine last week took advantage of a newly granted permit to attack a munitions factory.

It is not clear whether Ukraine has the manpower and equipment to engage on a third front as resources become increasingly depleted in regions currently experiencing heavy fighting.
