A California man who disappeared 25 years ago was found by his sister after she sent her a newspaper article with his photo.

The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office stated that on November 22 they received a call from a woman who had information about a previously reported missing person.

She informed Sheriff’s Deputy Derek Kennemore that the article had been sent to her USA today showing a photo of a man she believed to be her missing brother, who was last seen in Doyle in 1999, deputies said.

An article published in April 2024 in USA Today asked for help in identifying a man who was admitted to a hospital in the Los Angeles area.

The report states that shortly after, Deputy Kennemore contacted the hospital with the news, but was told he had been transferred to another hospital in July 2024.

“The man did not say anything and was never identified,” deputies said. “Deputy Kennemore contacted the second hospital, who confirmed they had a non-verbal, unidentified male in their care who matched the description of the missing person.”

A Los Angeles detective then went to the hospital and took fingerprints from a man who had been reported missing in 1999, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputy Kennemore told the woman the good news and the family would be reunited soon, deputies said.

The names of the brother and sister have been withheld for privacy reasons.
