The Austin Police Department is investigating an incident that occurred early Wednesday morning that may also have involved a stolen vehicle.

According to a news release from Austin Police Chief David McKichan, police were dispatched to a report of a 2014 Hyundai Sonata that went off the road on Ninth Avenue SW around 2:30 a.m., striking a residence and a parked vehicle. Damage to the house includes a set of wooden steps/deck and a downspout.

The passenger or passengers left the scene before officers arrived, leaving the vehicle at the scene. All attempts at identification and location were unsuccessful.

Later that morning, at approximately 4:00 a.m., APD received another report in which the reporter claimed that the same or a similar vehicle had been stolen from him during the night.

McKichan’s release said there are no suspects at this time and the people who filed the stolen vehicle report have not yet provided documentation of ownership of the vehicle involved in the crash on Ninth Avenue SW.

Anyone with information should contact APD at 1-507-437-9400.
