Two people died in a small plane crash

JESSAMINE CO., Ky. (WKYT) – Authorities are investigating after a small plane crashed in Jessamine County.

According to the Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 6 p.m. Sunday in a field near Ashgrove and involved a single-engine parachute plane.

Jessamine County Sheriff Kevin Grimes said that shortly before 6 p.m., someone spotted the plane that appeared to have crashed and called 911.

Sheriff Grimes says emergency responders arrived on scene within minutes of the 911 call and quickly determined that the two people on board were dead.

He says a man and a woman, probably husband and wife, died in the accident. Their names have not yet been revealed.

According to Sheriff Grimes, the pilot was experienced and had been flying for about 20 years.

A preliminary investigation is ongoing. The sheriff’s office says the NTSB and FAA were notified of the accident.

The NTSB is expected to arrive at the crash site Monday morning to begin its investigation.

The Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office is asking people to avoid the area until further notice.
