Ontario Provincial Police have identified an allegedly wanted man shooting at passing vehicles on Highway 401 in Mississauga on Tuesday morning.

In Wednesday’s update, police said they had obtained an arrest warrant for 29-year-old Troy Ledrew in connection with the incident that occurred in the eastbound lanes near Dixie Road around 5 a.m.

“To date, more than 10 drivers have reported shots fired into their vehicles, although no serious injuries have been reported as a result of the incident,” the OPP said.

Ledrew allegedly stole the driver’s vehicle and fled the scene. Officers later located the abandoned vehicle on Fasken Drive in Etobicoke.

“He is believed to be armed and dangerous,” police said. “Anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact the authorities immediately. Stay away if you are seen.”

Dashcam records suspect pointing gun at vehicles

A man driving to work on Tuesday morning encountered the suspect while driving in the eastbound lane of Highway 401.

“You can clearly see the guy running from left to right. And you don’t care until you see a gun pointed at you and it’s fight or flight mode,” the CP24 man agreed to identify only as Mike on Wednesday afternoon.

His dash cam, which had no audio, captured a man wearing a gray hoodie in busy lanes approaching vehicles and apparently pointing a gun at them.

“My first decision was to duck down, put it in third gear and get out of there,” Mike said. However, an accident occurred a few meters in front of him, which prevented him from quickly escaping.

“This is where fear comes in. (Will) he pursue me or not?”

Mike recalled passing the man and hearing a gunshot, which he said was when “the adrenaline was starting to kick in. And I did everything I could to get out of the way.

He then called 911 to report the incident.

The incident resulted in prolonged closures of the eastbound collector lanes of Highway 401 at Dixie Road and some ramps on Highways 410 and 401.

Mike said hearing the gunshot made him realize the man with the gun “meant business” and he needed to get out of there.

“It upset me as soon as I got back to work. “I mean, this gentleman stopped and I was like, ‘I can’t believe this happened,'” Mike said.

“It seems like this should be the norm. I can’t believe this is true.
