Haryana Local Government Minister Vipul Goyal on Wednesday directed municipal officials to ensure that there is no compromise on the quality of construction materials used in development projects.

Goyal, who is also in charge of revenue, disaster management and civil aviation, said monopoly in tendering would not be allowed and reiterated that all work would be allocated transparently and fairly through negotiations.

Goyal chaired a meeting to review and approve Haryana tender rates for projects in Narwana, Jind, Mandi Dabwali, Thanesar and Ratia municipal councils.

The meeting was attended by officials from city government departments; District Municipal Commissioners of Jind, Sirsa and Kurukshetra; and the chairmen of the relevant municipal councils. The minister directed them to complete the tender within a month.

An official spokesperson said the tender rates have been fixed for various development works, including removal of garbage currently dumped near the Delhi-Ferozepur Railway Line in Jind Nagar Parishad, biological processing of legacy waste behind Ram Bagh in Mandi Dabwali and laying of synthetic surface. track at Eklavya Stadium in Jind.

Moreover, the construction of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay research center in Narwana Nagar parishad was also finalized and rates for roads and streets with block pavements in the newly regularized Ratia nagar stake colonies were also finalized.

Following the demand of the Jind Municipal Council chairman regarding unnecessary delays by the engineering department in awarding tenders, the minister directed the district mayor to conduct an inquiry within a month.

He further said that the past performance of the agency assigned the work should be carefully examined to ensure that the quality of its work meets the required standards.

Regarding staff shortage in local bodies, the minister said that a report has been requested to provide details of staff requirement in all nagar parishads and palikas nagar parishes. This report is expected to be submitted to headquarters soon so that the process of filling the vacancies can begin.
