County employees accused of stealing gasoline from a pump at the police station

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Two Hawaii County Department of Public Works employees have been arrested and charged with allegedly stealing gasoline from a county plant.

Christin Eve Hoomaikainani Ho, 37, was charged with two counts of third-degree theft. Her bail was set at $2,000.

Chase K. Leopoldino, 39, was charged with third-degree larceny. His bail was set at $1,000.

On Saturday, November 23, shortly after 5 p.m., police say Ho was seen driving a Hawaii County vehicle at the gas pumps at the Hilo Police Station, where she filled a private vehicle driven by Leopoldino with gasoline.

The next day, shortly after 5 p.m., police say Ho was again seen driving a Hawaii County vehicle at the gas pumps at the Hilo Police Station, this time with another man whom police later identified as a family member. Police say Ho left the area and the man refueled another private vehicle.

Ho and Leopoldino were arrested on Monday while on duty and posted bail that evening. They are scheduled to appear in Hilo District Court on Christmas Eve, December 24, at 1:30 p.m.

Police and the Hawaii County Department of Public Works are investigating.
