Dogs adopted after suspected murder-suicide in Cresson Ct

BAKERSFIELD, CA (KGET) — Two dogs were adopted after a suspected murder-suicide occurred at the home they previously lived in.

Aqua, 12, and Toby, 10, have been staying at the shelter since the Oct. 29 shooting on Cresson Court in south Bakersfield that left two men dead.

The dogs were supposed to be euthanized, but someone decided to give them a new home.

Daniel Litterell of Kern County Animal Services said, “The gentleman came through the shelter and knew exactly where he was going. He wanted to see Aqua and Toby and met the dogs. He met and greeted them and got along well. He wanted to make sure they got out of the shelter safely and that’s exactly what he did.”

On Tuesday, Litterell posted on Facebook that the dogs had been adopted exactly four weeks after the county acquired them.

“We were obviously very excited,” Litterell said. “There were a lot of people involved in this story, so we always want to highlight happy endings whenever we can, and this was definitely one to highlight.”

He added: “It’s a truly special event right before Thanksgiving that these two dogs are finally back home where they belong.”
