‘Home Improvement’ Star Zachery Ty Bryan Charged with DUI in Oklahoma

Eight months after being arrested for driving under the influence Zachery Ty Bryan faces more legal problems.

The “Home Improvement” The star was arrested over the weekend by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol for allegedly driving under the influence, according to a USA TODAY review of Custer County Jail records. In addition to the DUI charge, Bryan did not have a valid driver’s license on him at the time of his arrest.

Bryan, who was admitted Friday morning, is in custody at the Custer County Jail, Latasha Goodman, administrative deputy for the Custer County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed Sunday. The actor’s bond for the misdemeanor DUI charge was set at $25,000 and his driver’s license bond was set at $500.

USA TODAY has reached out to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol for more information. Bryan’s representatives were unavailable for comment at the time of publication.

Bryan is scheduled to appear for a hearing on Monday afternoon.

In February, Bryan was there arrested by the La Quinta Sheriff’s Office in California after deputies stopped a vehicle suspected of being involved in a traffic collision. Police “observed signs of impairment” in Bryan’s driver and arrested him for driving under the influence with a prior license.

A month after his arrest, Bryan was accused of a crimereceiving additional charges stemming from a DUI conviction within the past 10 years, according to court records obtained by USA TODAY at the time. Friday’s arrest marks Bryan’s fifth DUI charge and second offense if convicted, according to Custer County Jail records.

Bryan’s new DUI arrest is the latest in a string of legal troubles for the former child star, who rose to fame playing Brad Taylor on the series Tim Allen-hosted the comedy series from 1991 to 1999.

He has been arrested on the charges before domestic violence in 2020 i convicted on two counts before his arrest in another case of domestic violence in July 2023. Following his 2023 arrest, the Eugene, Oregon Police Department said in a statement that Bryan was booked into the Lane County Jail on suspicion of fourth-degree assault after officers “received a report of a physical dispute” between a man and a woman.

Last October, Bryan he pleaded guilty to fourth-degree assault after reaching a plea deal that included the dismissal of a second assault charge and a sentence of nearly two years in prison. He was sentenced to one week in jail and 36 months of supervised probation.

Bryan was also ordered “to have no contact with the victim without the consent of his probation officer, to seek treatment for alcohol/substance abuse issues as directed by his probation officer, and to not consume alcohol or drugs.”

Bryan’s TV dad, Allen, opened up about his legal woes in: Interview from June 2023 with The Hollywood Reporter. “I don’t know what’s happening to him,” he said. “Zach is a great kid who has grown into a complex man. All you can do is step aside and let someone walk you through the process.”

Allen added: “At some point he went from being the guy I know to someone who reacts to situations that I have nothing to do with and that I can’t control.”
