A student has been arrested after allegedly making threats against students and teachers at an Inverclyde school.

Police were called Thursday afternoon after alleged threats were made against St. Patrick’s High School. Columbus in Gourock.

An investigation into the circumstances is ongoing and a 14-year-old has been arrested.

In a letter to parents, headteacher Nicola Devine said “all appropriate action is being taken” and that staff and pupils were to attend school as normal on Friday.

She added: “Yesterday, Thursday, November 28, 2024, we received information about an accusation suggesting threats to students and teachers on Friday, November 29.

“Swift and appropriate action was taken, including contacting Inverclyde Council and referring the matter to the police who are currently investigating.”

She added that due to the ongoing police investigation, no further details could be provided, but “the health and safety of everyone at the school is paramount.”

Chief Inspector David Doherty, area commander for Inverclyde, said: “At around 3.40pm on Thursday, November 28, we received a report of threatening communications.
