At least two people have been killed and six injured in the latest series of Russian attacks on Ukraine

At least six people were injured in a Russian attack on a nine-story apartment building in Kharkiv.

According to the mayor of Kharkov, Ihor Terekhov, rescue teams rushed to rescue residents early Monday morning. Among the victims was a 16-year-old girl when three apartments on the upper floors were destroyed.

In the port city of Kherson, Governor Oleksandr Prokudin said on the Telegram messaging app that an elderly man died after a drone dropped explosives on him and another man was killed by artillery fire.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry said its air defense units shot down 21 Ukrainian drones overnight that targeted several regions, including Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh and Kursk.

As stated by Governor Alexander Gusev, in the Voronezh region, a drone attack led to a fire in an industrial facility, which injured one person. Emergency services were called to extinguish the fire.

Additionally, according to the Baza news channel, which is close to the Russian security services, two explosions were reported near an ethanol plant in the village of Krasnoye. Euronews could not independently confirm these claims.

War among voices around the world

After Sunday’s parliamentary elections in Bulgaria, the center-right GERB party of former Prime Minister Boyko Borissov turned out to be the winner, as indicated primarily by the results of the exit poll.

The main pro-Russian party in Bulgaria, Vazrazdane, which according to polls will become the second largest party in the legislature, achieved a weaker result. The far-right ultranationalist party demands that Sofia lift sanctions against Russia, stop helping Ukraine and hold a referendum on its NATO membership.

So far, the group is isolated in parliament and there are no new signs of future partnership. However, if the mainstream parties in the legislature fail to break the deadlock, the attractiveness of Vazrazhdane and other similar groups could increase, potentially changing Bulgaria’s pro-Western stance.

The newly elected Social Democratic Party in Lithuania announced on Monday that its government intends to spend at least 3.5% of gross domestic product on defense.

The vote in Lithuania, which borders the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad to the west and Belarus to the east, took place amid heightened concerns about Moscow’s intentions, especially with regard to the strategically important Baltic region.

Meanwhile, in the US, Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance stated that Moscow is an adversary of the US, but suggested that treating the Kremlin as an enemy is counterproductive.

Vance made these comments on a Sunday talk show that aired nine days before Election Day. He also said the Trump administration is committed to NATO, a transatlantic military alliance seen as a bulwark against further Russian aggression in Europe.

“We’re not at war with him and I don’t want to be at war with Vladimir Putin’s Russia,” Vance said when pressed on whether Moscow was the enemy during an NBC interview.
