Suspect vehicle involved in Toronto shooting crashes into school: police

Toronto police say the suspect vehicle was involved in approximately shooting downtown on Sunday night which seriously injured one person, crashed into a school in Etobicoke and caught fire.

Officers were called to the area of Sherbourne and Dundas streets just before 9:30 p.m. on a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, police said they found a male victim with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Two suspects, identified by police only as a man and a woman, were seen fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

The vehicle was later located more than 25 kilometers from the scene of the shooting in Etobicoke and was involved in a single-vehicle accident. One of the suspects fled the scene on foot and was arrested. As a precaution, they were taken to hospital.

In an email to CP24 Monday morning, police confirmed that a vehicle struck Dixon Grove High School, near The Westway and Kipling Avenue, and then caught fire. The police did not say whether anyone was in the building at the time.

While it is unclear whether police were involved in the pursuit of the suspect vehicle before the crash, a Toronto police spokesman said the Special Investigations Unit did not invoke its authority.

Police said a firearm was seized at the time of the arrest, adding that there were no other suspects.

Police have not identified the suspects and it is unclear what charges they face.
