Google’s artificial intelligence can “take over” your browser and even order products

Google has big plans for artificial intelligence and it’s no secret. But exactly what it plans to do with artificial intelligence in the near future – and how it hopes consumers will interact with it – is a bit more unclear.

According to a new report, the next major version of the Gemini model has big ambitions, including the ability to completely control the Chrome browser. This is as reported by “Information”.citing unconfirmed leaks from deep within Google.

The system is allegedly codenamed “Project Jarvis”, a clear allusion to Tony Stark’s fictional and semi-sentient artificial intelligence from the film Iron Man cinema. This improved version of Gemini can apparently control Google Chrome using screenshots and virtual mouse clicks, just like Anthropic recently presented with the Claude AI system.

According to leaked information, the ultimate goal is a system that is so advanced and reliable that it can be used to order products from online stores and even order and pay for airline tickets. This would be a major step compared to the rather basic attempts at automation currently employed by Google and its competitors. However, Google’s deep dive into the browser and search space would certainly make it possible, if not easy.

Google is expected to show off an early preview of the feature in December, though this is reportedly subject to change. Then there will be a small initial beta test to check for bugs – and boy, any system that is expected to autonomously spend regular users’ money is going to have some disturbing bugs.

However, this tracks Google’s more consumer-focused approach to artificial intelligence, as opposed to Microsoft’s clear intention to win over businesses. Google is trying bring AI features to Chromebooks and Pixel phones, so it can be integrated into everyday tasks.

So far his attempts have been met with a lot of hesitation, especially when it comes to Google’s main search tool. However, Gemini’s integration with ChromeOS provides a better reason to rely on these intensive, remote processes, at least in some cases. If Google can bring automation to Chrome in a more convenient and, most importantly, reliable fashion, it might just convince people that this is something worth the asking price.
