Three people have died in crashes in Montana in recent days

BIG FALLS — There have been three fatal crashes in Montana in recent days – one on Friday, one on Saturday and one on Sunday.


A 23-year-old Saco woman died in a single-vehicle crash on Friday, October 25, 2024, in Phillips County.

The crash occurred around 11:49 p.m. on MT Highway 243 near mile marker 19.

The Montana Highway Patrol says the woman was driving south and for some reason she went off the side of the road. The vehicle “suddenly stopped” when it hit a ditch; the impact killed a woman at the scene.

The woman was the only passenger in the Chevy Trailblazer.

According to the Ministry of Health, alcohol was the cause of the accident. The woman was not wearing a seat belt.

Her name has not been revealed.


A 75-year-old Roberts man died in a single-vehicle crash on Saturday, October 26, 2024, in Carbon County.

The crash occurred around 2:20 p.m. near the intersection of MT Highway 72 and Dutch Lane.

The Montana State Highway Patrol says the man was driving south on MT 72 and for some reason drove off the right side of the road; The Ford F-150 crashed through a fence, then hit a tree and then caught fire.

The driver – the only passenger of the vehicle – died on the spot.

According to MHP, alcohol/drugs and/or speed were not factors in the crash. The man was wearing a seat belt.

His name has not been revealed.


A 54-year-old Butte man died on Sunday, October 27, 2024, in a single-vehicle accident in Deer Lodge County.

The crash occurred around 4:40 p.m. on Montana Highway 569, near the 1-mile marker.

The Montana Highway Patrol says the man was driving northbound and failed to make a left turn, causing the car to veer off the right side of the road. The driver returned to the road and overcorrected, causing the car to roll several times. The force of the collision threw the man from the car.

The driver – the sole occupant of the Subaru Legacy – was taken to a local hospital in Anaconda, where he was pronounced dead.

According to the MHP, alcohol and excessive speed are believed to be factors in the accident. The man was wearing a seat belt.
