Quinta Brunson Jokes Her Mom Can’t Watch ‘Abbott, It’s Always Sunny’ Crossover (Exclusive)

Quinta Brunson shares more insights into the hotly anticipated event Abbott Elementary School AND It’s always sunny in Philadelphia intersection. In doing so, he knows this episode won’t be for everyone.

The Abbott Elementary School star and showrunner spoke with PEOPLE on Saturday, October 26 at the EMA Awards, where she revealed what fans can expect from the highly anticipated episode. She remembers when the idea came to her and, as she explained, it was a complete accident.

“I think someone posted a stupid thing on the Internet Rob McElhenney and said, “That looks like it Always sunny episode,” she explained. “And then he said, ‘It’s more like… Abbott episode.’ That got Rob and I talking, and the episode isn’t about that, but Rob and I really got along.

“I think what was important, first of all, was that I connected with the lead creator of this show and we saw a world where we could combine our shows because they’re both in Philadelphia,” she continued. “It was really simple and people get confused, but I think it works really well and it helps that we’re all under the Disney umbrella, so it wasn’t as painful as it could have been.”

As for whether she’ll be able to let loose during the crossover special, Brunson said she will.

“Yeah, my mom isn’t allowed to watch it,” he jokes.

Danny DeVito shared by A similar attitude towards PEOPLE earlier this month, saying there were “lots of surprises.”

“I think we’re a little crazy about them on the show, but they handle us pretty well,” he laughed, adding: “We had a great time. They are wonderful people. It’s such a weird mix, so it’ll be fun.”

At the beginning of October It’s always sunny in Philadelphia star and creator McElhenney announced the crossover social media. Lent showing McElhenney, Charlie’s Day and Brunson in front of the icon Abbott Elementary School school gave fans a taste of what’s to come.

More photos in the series featured McElhenney, Day and Brunson with DeVito and Abbott stars Tyler James Williams AND William Stanford Davis. The group stood with their arms crossed near the school’s doors with the words “Willard R. Abbott Public School” in the background.

“Oh. Hello,” he wrote under the post.

Hulu then commented on the post, “Gang goes to Abbott Elementary,” confirming the news.

Abbott Elementary School airs Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. ET on ABC, while FXX’s It’s always sunny in Philadelphia can be streamed in its entirety on Hulu.
