Bend-La Pine Schools honored La Pine Principal Scott Olszewski as Administrator of the Year

La PINE, Ore. (KTVZ) – Bend-La Pine Schools presented the Administrator of the Year Award to Scott Olszewski, principal of La Pine High School, on Friday evening. Superintendent Steven Cook and other district officials made a surprise introduction during halftime of a football game at the La Pine High Hawks’ home stadium.

Olszewski has worked in Bend-La Pine schools for 19 years and is in his fourth year as principal at La Pine High School. His leadership is based on building strong relationships with students, staff, families and the broader community.

“Scott is someone who not only promotes an inclusive and positive culture, but also inspires others to reach their full potential,” said Dr. Cook. “He sees challenges not as obstacles but as opportunities for growth, and he has made it his mission to ensure that every voice counts and every person is valued in our schools.”

From an innovative approach to improving school culture and climate to an ongoing commitment to student achievement, Olszewski is always striving for progress.

“What truly sets Scott apart is his unwavering commitment to the people he serves,” said Dr. Cook. “He is the first to step in when needed and the last to leave when there is work to be done. His collaborative spirit, combined with a deep understanding of the needs of our students and staff, has earned him the respect and admiration of all who work with him.”

On Friday evening, Dr. Cook was joined by School Board Director Shirley Olson, Assistant Superintendent Lisa Birk, Executive Director of Secondary Schools Katie Legace and other district leaders. On Olszewski’s behalf, representatives from Mid Oregon Credit Union presented La Pine High School with a check for $500. Mid Oregon runs a student chapter at La Pine High School and helps students learn financial skills.

In the coming weeks, the district will present two more awards for excellence in education, one to a teacher and one to a support staff member. The Excellence in Education Awards honor custodians, counselors, kitchen managers, classroom teachers, educational assistants, office managers, bus drivers and other district employees who have made a positive impact on students.

The recognition began last spring when Bend-La Pine Schools honored dozens of employees from across the district who distinguished themselves for their leadership, innovation, exceptional professional practice and positive contributions to work and the community. From this group, 13 finalists were recognized this fall.
