Jordan Hendrikse will replace the injured Malherbe in the Bok squad

Hendrikse was called up after the experienced prop was forced to remain in South Africa on Sunday with an ankle injury.

Malherbe was injured in the Stormers United Rugby Championship clash with Glasgow Warriors in Stellenbosch last Saturday.

Hendrikse – brother of scrumhalf Jaden Hendrikse – started his first and only Test against Wales in London in June in the Boks’ season opener, while also being named in Springbok coach Rassi Erasmus’ reserve squad for the Castle Lager Incoming Series.

The Sharks flyhalf will join the Jersey squad on Thursday.

Erasmus explained the decision to replace Malherbe with a player at the back, saying there was enough depth in the group at this stage after the appointment of Wilco Louw, who joined fellow top players Thomas du Toit, Vincent Koch and Ox. Composed of Nche and Gerhard Steenekamp.

Earlier, hooker Johan Grobbelaar and loose forward Cameron Hanekom were also called up after the withdrawals of Jan-Hendrik Wessels and Damian Willemse, who were ruled out with ankle and groin injuries.

“Jordan plays very well for Hollywoodbets Sharks at Vodacom URC and is a Springbok with a cap, so he knows our structures,” Erasmus said.

“This will be a great opportunity for him to gain further exposure at international level and within the Springbok team itself. We also have good depth among the forwards, so we decided to call up Jordan to add more depth between the defenders.

“He is a talented player and his role in his association is growing, as we saw with his late penalty goal that won the Hollywoodbets Sharks the Carling Currie Cup title earlier this season, as well as his recent performances for Vodacom URC, so We are excited to see what he can add to the lineup.”

During their traditional end-of-year tour, the Boks will face Scotland in Edinburgh (Sunday November 10), England in London (Saturday November 16) and Wales in Cardiff (Saturday November 23).
