Can PMA transport more than 1 person?

This is a common sight.

On October 3, two people were captured on camera in Geylang using a personal mobility assistive device (PMA).

Patter Lwho was riding in a passing double-decker bus, took photos of a man and a woman riding together at the intersection of Geyland Road and Joo Chiat Road.

“Has this been approved?” Stomper asked.

Under Act on active mobility, A PMA, such as a scooter or electric wheelchair, must have only one seat and must be designed to carry only one person who cannot walk or has difficulty walking.

Devices with multiple seats are not considered scooters.

Additionally, persons using electric assisted bicycles (PABs) are prohibited from carrying a passenger on a PAB on cycle paths and roads if the passenger is under 16 years of age.

On October 28, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) had previously reported on Facebook that more than 70 passengers were caught for offenses in September, including using non-compliant or unregistered PAB devices and personal mobile devices (PMDs).

LTA added in the post: “Your devices must also have correctly affixed license plates that meet all requirements.”
