The election of George W. Bush’s daughter as president may be surprising

Although former President George W. Bush has not weighed in on the presidential race, his daughter has just announced who she will support.

Barbara Pierce Bush, 42, revealed in a statement to People magazine on Tuesday that she would support Vice President Kamala Harris in her fight against former President Donald Trump. The magazine reported that Bush spent part of the weekend campaigning for vice president in the battleground state of Pennsylvania that is seen as a must-win state for Democrats.

“It was inspiring to join friends and meet Harris-Walz campaign voters in Pennsylvania this weekend,” she said in a statement to People. “I hope they will move our country forward and protect women’s rights.”

Her father, a Republican president who served from 2001 to 2009, has not endorsed anyone in the 2024 election. However, his vice president Dick Cheney said he would vote for Harris. Cheney’s daughter, former Republican Liz Cheney (Wyo.), endorsed Harris and has since on the campaign trail for her.

People magazine noted that Barbara Pierce Bush previously told him in 2010 that this was the case does not identify with any political party. However, she talked at fundraising for Planned Parenthood in 2017 on the importance of women’s access to health care.

Dozens of other Republicans have expressed support for Harris, who is running head-to-head with the former president. The Harris campaign does he praised her support among Republicans and former Trump officials, explaining in their own words why they believe Trump is unfit for office.

With just a few days left until November 5, both campaigns are focused on delivering a final message to undecided voters. Harris is scheduled to deliver his closing message to voters on Tuesday on the Washington Ellipse.

A week before Election Day, Harris’ speech, delivered on the grassy Ellipse near the White House, is intended to encourage Americans to imagine an alternative future if she or Trump takes the Oval Office in less than three months.
