A Lamar High School student will be tried as an adult on weapons charges

On Wednesday, a Lamar High School student arrested on weapons charges appeared in court.

Clifton Skillern, 17, is charged with possession of a prohibited weapon at Lamar HS and will be tried as an adult, according to court documents. The weapon was a pistol with an extended magazine.

He will be released on bail, and the conditions of his bail include 24-hour house arrest, except for court hearings and meetings with a lawyer, and a ban on the use of drugs and alcohol.

Skillern is also ordered to have no contact with Lamar HS or the other minors involved in the case.

The penalty for committing this act can range from two to 10 years.
