The Chicago White Sox reportedly have three top management candidates

According to reports, the Chicago White Sox are narrowing their managerial search after a season in which they recorded 121 losses (41-121).

According to Jon Heyman New York Post White Sox it appears to have three “leading candidates”. The White Sox fired manager Pedro Grifol in August and hired former outfielder Grady Sizemore as interim manager for the rest of the year.

The main candidates for the White Sox job are believed to be Rangers bench coach Will Venable and former Angels manager Phil Nevin and Tigers bench coach George Lombard.

Venable is a guy that White Sox general manager Chris Getz has always liked. It would be interesting to see him take the White Sox job a year after turning down an interview invitation with the Mets.

Lombard, 49, spent six years as a player for the Atlanta Braves, Tampa Bay (Devil) Rays, Washington Nationals and Detroit Tigers. An outfielder, he hit .220 with eight home runs in his career. He spent the last four years as the bench coach of the Detroit Tigers, helping the Tigers advance to the National League Division Series this season.

Previously, he worked for the Los Angeles Dodgers as a first base coach for five seasons. He helped Los Angeles win the World Series during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.

As for Venable, he is currently with the Rangers and helping them win the 2023 World Series title.

Before coming to Texas, Venable had worked with the Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox since his career ended.

He spent nine years in the big leagues (2008-2016), playing for the Padres, Rangers and Dodgers. He spent parts of eight years in San Diego and is certainly best known for his career there.

An outfielder, he was a lifetime .249 hitter with 81 runs scored, 307 RBI and 135 stolen bases. He stole over 20 bags in four seasons and scored a career-high 22 goals in 2013.

Nevin spent parts of two seasons as manager (2022-2023) of the Los Angeles Angels. In 268 games he achieved a record of 119-149.

He had a 12-year playing career, most notably with the Padres.
