Destin High School principal releases statement on student injured in crash

DESTIN, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Multiple students are reportedly hospitalized after a crash in Destin Friday evening.

One of those students attends Destin High School Saturday, Destin High School Principal released the following statement:

Dear Shark Families:

I want to share an update with you on the car accident in Destin last night that left one of our students hospitalized. I personally visited with the student and his father last night at the hospital and I promised to have his favorite foods waiting, once he is out of surgery.

The multi car crash resulted in students from the South Walton area, also being hospitalized. I have been told that those students are being treated in Gulf Coast area hospitals.

This news has taken a toll on our school community, especially the students and staff, as false rumors circulated quickly online. Our Shark Counseling team will be on campus Monday to assist any students or staff who may need extra support. I will personally be coordinating support for the student’s family, as needed.

I ask that you keep the impacted families, as well as our Sharks and the Seahawk community, in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Dr. Diane Kelley, principal
