According to Minneapolis police, the shooting occurred just before 4:45 a.m. at a “small” homeless encampment near the intersection of 21st Street East and 15th Avenue South.

Authorities said that at the scene, officers found three men who had been shot. All three were taken to hospital.

According to police, one of the men later died in hospital.

Police say the three suspects appear to have fled the scene on foot.

What we don’t know

It is not known what caused the shooting. Police say they are working to determine what connection the three men shot to death had to the homeless encampment.

No arrests have been made and no information has been released about possible suspects.

What are they saying?

“Once again, tragedy has occurred at a homeless encampment and police know all three of those injured,” said Minneapolis Chief Brian O’Hara. “Injured people today are among the risk groups in homeless camps. These are suspects, witnesses and victims of crime. “Crime levels, drug use and other factors associated with encampments continue to create very unsafe conditions, which we are working with our partners to try to address.”
