12-year-old seriously injured in crash in Ensley

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WATCHA 12-year-old was seriously injured after being hit by a car in Ensley Saturday evening, according to the Birmingham Police Department.

At approximately 6:45 p.m., shots were fired in the 2400 block of Avenue D. A car fled the scene, striking a 12-year-old boy who was riding an ATV in the area.

The driver fled on foot and a patrol took him into custody a few blocks from the crash site.

The report indicates that the victim has life-threatening injuries. Investigators from the BPD Traffic Homicide Unit are handling the case.
