A renowned sports doctor predicts that Shohei Ohtani will suffer a serious injury that will be necessary

Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani suffered a left shoulder injury during Saturday’s World Series win over the New York Yankees. Injury occurred in the bottom of the seventh inning when Ohtani tried to steal second base. He was called out and then walked off the field holding his arm. His spot was never on Los Angeles’ order again, so we couldn’t see how the Dodgers would handle another potential Ohtani hit.

Since Sunday is the show’s day off, we probably won’t hear any official news until Monday, but at this point, early reports are conflicting.

Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reported the following information on “X” based on comments from Dodgers manager Dave Roberts.

Dave Roberts said Shohei Ohtani suffered a subluxation of his left shoulder. The strength and range of motion tests came back fine, but he didn’t want to speculate until they did more tests tomorrow.

Roberts also said he expects Ohtani to be in the lineup for Game 3, but nothing is known at this time. Ohtani may be fine and play, but it may be Roberts’ fault.

On the other side of the speculative commentary, Ohtani’s situation does not look so good. Renowned sports doctor and former NFL team doctor David Chao had a much more bleak take on the whole matter.

All-star Shohei Ohtani tried to steal second base and was ejected from the game. In the video, he appears to be suffering from a transient dislocation of his left shoulder with a possible associated labrum tear, according to analysis by our Pro Sports Docs team. This injury is significant and will almost certainly mean the end of the World Series for Ohtani, the Dodgers’ dynamic hitter. If the injury is confirmed, surgery is expected and the goal will be to have him fully ready for spring training in 2025.

This would obviously be a worst-case scenario, as it would cause Ohtani to miss the rest of the series and significantly delay his offseason. Since Ohtani has a limited program to get the ball rolling again, any major setbacks and delays could hurt that comeback.

The Dodgers lead the series 2-0 and are seeking their first World Series win since 2020.

Game 3 will be played on Monday night at 8:08 p.m. ET.
