Israeli attacks on the northern Gaza Strip have killed at least 22 people, mostly women and children, Palestinian officials said on Sunday, as the Israeli offensive in the hardest-hit and isolated area entered its third week, with the UN Secretary-General calling the difficult plight of Palestinians there ” intolerable.” Israel said its targets were militants.

In a separate incident, one person was killed and dozens were injured on Sunday when a truck crashed into a bus stop at a major intersection near Tel Aviv in central Israel in what police said was a suspected terrorist attack.

Israeli police said about 40 people were injured to varying degrees, some seriously, and were taken to nearby hospitals.

Ichilov Medical Center in Tel Aviv said one of the victims died from his wounds. Almost Sheba Medical Center says it has treated eight civilians and soldiers.

The attack, in which a truck drove into a bus stop near a military base, occurred around 10 a.m., police said, noting that the driver – who holds Israeli citizenship – was “neutralized” by gunfire from a nearby civilian.

“We are examining all directions of the investigation, focusing on the suspicion that this is a terrorist attack,” the police said.
