The ministry allocates Tk2cr to BSMMU for free treatment of those injured during the student movement

The money will be used for all types of fees for medical examinations, medicines and food for injured patients

The Ministry of Finance has allocated Tk 2 crore to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) to provide free treatment to those affected by the activities of the Students’ Anti-Discrimination Movement.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the money will be used to cover all types of fees for medical examinations, medicines and food for injured patients.

In addition, a special unit was established at the Ministry of Health, whose task is to collect information about students injured and martyred in the uprising, including sending seriously injured people abroad for treatment.

Finance ministry officials said that in line with the caretaker government’s promise to provide free medical care to those injured in the July-August uprising, the Department of Health and Family Welfare has requested an allocation of Tk 2 crore.

As per their demand, the finance ministry granted BSMMU Tk2 crore on October 24.

Of this amount, Tk 45 lakh will be spent on renovating all cabins on two floors of the hospital building where treatment will be provided to those injured in the student uprising.

In addition, an amount of Tk 1.002 million was allocated for medicines, laboratory tests, implants or devices, procedures and food for injured patients.

In addition, the amount of PLN 10,000 tk was allocated to create a database of all those injured in the student uprising and to create an online data verification system, 20 thousand. tk for physiotherapy, 10 thousand tk for psychotherapy and 10 thousand tk for equipment and additional expenses.

The finance ministry also allocated Tk 2.40 lakh for hiring two physiotherapists for three months and another Tk 2.40 lakh for hiring two clinical psychologists for three months for the affected people.

A special unit of the Ministry of Health

Meanwhile, in a notification issued on October 23, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said it had formed a three-member special cell to expedite the process of collecting information about those injured and martyrs in the mass uprising.

According to a notification signed by Umme Habiba, deputy secretary of the Department of Health Services, this special cell was established following the decision of the advisory board meeting held on October 17.

The Joint Secretary (Administration) will be the member and the Deputy Secretary (Hospital) will be the member secretary of the cell to be convened by the Additional Secretary (Hospital).

In accordance with the tasks of the cell, it will carry out the necessary activities to complete the list of martyrs of the July-August Uprising. Taking into account the list already collected by the Ministry of Health, the list obtained from other sources will be verified and taken into account.

To collect information about the martyrs when necessary, this cell will be able to conduct on-the-spot information inquiries in various parts of the country and take help from local stakeholders.

The cell will also help the injured of the student movement get free treatment, providing necessary assistance to the families of the martyrs and injured, and sending seriously injured people abroad for advanced treatment.

A special unit will also deal with the documentation and conservation of the history of the student movement.
