Kyran Durnin: “We need to understand what went wrong,” says O’Gorman

Speaking to RTÉ’s This Week programme, O’Gorman said the agency’s report should be ready in the coming week.

He added that he did not know whether Tusla had received a referral due to Kyran’s prolonged absence from school, but expected the report to mention it.

“I think this case shocked the whole country,” he said.

“It is deeply disturbing that a child has gone missing and has not been contacted by state authorities for a period of two years, and we need to understand what went wrong in this particular case,” the minister said.

“We can fully understand all the contacts this child and his family have had with Tusla, as well as other elements of the state, and what went wrong in this situation.”
