The former UCLA star was injured in a shocking season

Who told Norman Powell to blow up on his bingo card ahead of the 2024-2025 NBA campaign?

Well, that’s exactly what happened, as the former UCLA Bruins star leads the Los Angeles Clippers in averaging 23.3 points per game on shooting splits of 49.0/48.7/81.7 so far.

While Powell’s scoring average has dropped slightly over the last few weeks, he has maintained a high scoring rate,

In their last two games before the Kings battle, Powell went He shot 9 of 17 from beyond the arc, including 5 of 6 in the Clippers’ victory over the Golden State Warriors on November 18.

The problem is that Powell suffered a hamstring injury during the victory in Los Angeles. Two days later, he missed the team’s victory over the Orlando Magic and will be sidelined next two matches because of the problem.

Hamstrings are always tricky, so you have to wonder how this will affect Powell in the future. Three games seems like a pretty quick fix after a hamstring injury, so it’s something that could potentially derail Powell’s season if not handled properly.

Let’s hope the Clippers take Powell in stride and slowly get him back.

The 31-year-old spent four seasons at UCLA between 2011-12 and 2014-15, and while he had some impressive years with the Bruins, he wasn’t viewed as a top NBA prospect.

Powell was selected by the Milwaukee Bucks in the second round of the 2015 NBA Draft and was immediately traded to the Toronto Raptors.

The 6-foot-3 winger quickly carved out a fairly credible role for the Raptors and spent the first five-and-a-half years of his career in Toronto as a nice complementary player.

Powell also played for the Portland Trail Blazers before joining the Clippers midway through the 2021-2022 season.

Although Powell improved as a scorer throughout his career, no one expected him to achieve such success this season.

Of course, it’s still very early and Powell has plenty of time to regress to the mean. He shows little sign of slowing down, however, and currently ranks fifth in the NBA in three-pointers made. He also has an incredible shooting percentage of 63.8%.
