A fire broke out during victory celebrations in Chandgad, Maharashtra, and the newly elected candidate was injured | Video | Latest India News

The newly elected candidate was injured in a fire during the victory ceremony in Chandgad Maharashtra Assembly Elections results on Saturday.

Independent candidate Shivaji Patil, representing Chandgad assembly constituency, was injured in the accident.

According to eyewitnesses quoted by PTI, the fire broke out when women performing ‘aarti’ for Shivaji Patil in Mahgaon were engulfed in flames due to a large amount of gulal falling from a crane onto their ‘aarti’ slabs.

A video of the incident that has gone viral shows a crane releasing a huge amount of gulal into the crowd celebrating the candidate’s victory.

The injured people were taken to hospital.

Independent candidate Shivaji Patil won the Chandgad assembly elections with a majority of 24,134 votes, securing 84,254 votes. He defeated Nagesh Patil of NCP who got 60,120 votes and Nandatai Babhulkar-Kupekar of NCP-SP who got 47,259 votes.

Maharashtra election results

The BJP-led Mahayuti, which also includes the chief minister Eknath ShindeShiv Sena and deputy CM Ajit Pawar’s NCP retained power in Maharashtra on Saturday, securing 230 of the 288 seats in the assembly.

Maha Vikas Aghadi’s hopes of a Congress-led comeback were dashed as the opposition alliance had only 46 seats.

The BJP won 132 seats, the Shiv Sena 57 and the NCP 41 seats.

In the MVA, the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar faction) won 10 seats, the Congress 16 and the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) won 20 seats.

Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule said that the BJP received wide support from all sections of society in the elections.

Shiv Sena MP (UBT). Sanjay Raut commented on the result of Sunday’s assembly elections in Maharashtra, stating that the party is not discouraged. He said that they were Shiv Sainiks from Balasaheb Thackeray who had experienced both defeats and victories throughout their lives.

Raut said: “We are not disappointed, we are people who fight. We are the Shiv Sainiks of Balasaheb Thackeray. Balasaheb Thackeray also saw many defeats and victories in his life. We are not sad that we have lost or lost power. We will fight against injustice in Maharashtra.”

He further said that the people of Maharashtra were disheartened with the results and asked, “Where are the result celebrations?”
