McGregor was convicted by a civil jury of assaulting Ms Hand at a south Dublin hotel in December 2018.

The jury, which included eight women and four men, deliberated for just over six hours before reaching its verdict Friday afternoon.

McGregor shook his head as the jury read that Ms Hand had won the case against him.

However, she lost her case against another man, James Lawrence, who she claimed had “brutally raped and beaten” her that same night.

They both denied her allegations and claimed that the sex was consensual.

In a now-deleted post, McGregor furiously criticized the verdict, announced an appeal and said he wanted to be “vindicated.”

In a speech to the court after winning the civil case, Ms Hand said: “I would like to start by saying that I am overwhelmed and moved thanks to the support I received from everyone.”

She then thanked the many people who supported her throughout the case, before paying an emotional tribute to her daughter.

Sobbing, she said: “Finally, I want to thank my daughter Freya, for which I am very grateful.

“Over the last six years, during this nightmare, she has given me so much strength and courage to continue fighting for justice.

“I want to show Freya and all the other girls and boys that you can stand up for yourself if something happens to you, no matter who that person is, and justice will be served.”

Earlier in the case, McGregor denied Ms Hand’s allegations and claimed they had “enthusiastic and athletic” sex.

The Irish sports star was shown photos of bruises on Ms Hand’s body taken days after the alleged assault.

During questioning, McGregor denied causing the bruises, saying they were “probably caused by immersion in the bathtub.”

Mrs. Hand’s lawyer emphasized that in the hospital, after the alleged rape, the tampon had to be removed from her using tweezers.

Gordon said: “The liar here is McGregor who has neither the courage nor the decency to admit what he has done.

“He is not a man, he is a cunning coward and you should treat him as he is.”

Referring to the bruises on Ms Hand’s body, Gordon said: ‘Let’s put it this way: someone did it. It happened at the Beacon Hotel. It was McGregor.”
