NEW YORK — Crisis averted for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The day after the superstar Shohei Ohtani suffered a partial shoulder dislocation in the second game of the World Series on Saturday, the Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told ESPN that Ohtani is “in an excellent situation and will play in the third match tomorrow.”

After Saturday’s game, Roberts seemed confident that Ohtani had escaped serious injury, but the Dodgers’ designated hitter had to go undergo further tests to confirm.

“The strength was great. Good range of motion. It encourages us,” Roberts said afterward Dodgers won 4-2.

The Dodgers are 2-0 in the World Series, and Games 3, 4 and 5 (if necessary) will be played Monday through Wednesday at Yankee Stadium in New York.

Signed for $700 million last winter Ohtani became the first player in history with 50 home runs and 50 steals in one season and will likely be the unanimous MVP of the National League. Playing in his first career postseason, the 30-year-old had three runs, 10 RBIs and an .863 OPS in 13 games during the Los Angeles playoffs.

He went 1-for-8 in the first two games of the World Series against the Yankees.
