2 people dead, 2 more injured in shooting on city’s south side

A fight in a parking lot at 5400 S. Staples Street left two people dead and two more people were hospitalized after a shooting between participants.

According to the Corpus Christi Police Department, police were called at 2:37 a.m. Sunday for a report of a shooting that resulted in injuries.

When officers arrived, they found two gunshot victims, a 20-year-old Latino man and a 20-year-old black man. The third person, a 26-year-old Latino man, drove himself to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two hours later, a fourth person involved in the incident arrived at another local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives determined that a fight began in the parking lot and then escalated into a shooting between the people involved. CCPD says it does not believe this was a random act of violence.

The Corpus Christi Police Department says the investigation is ongoing and detectives are asking if anyone was at the club or has video at the time of the incident to come forward and contact detectives at 361-886-2840.
