Israel AND Lebanon agreed to the terms of the armistice agreement, Axles said on Monday, citing a US official, which could end the Israeli attack that killed thousands of Lebanese civilians.

Neither side has officially announced the agreement, but Israel’s security cabinet is expected to approve the agreement on Tuesday, a U.S. official said.

“We believe we have reached an agreement. We’re on the goal line, but we’re not there yet. The Israeli government must approve the agreement on Tuesday, and something could always go wrong before then, the U.S. official said.

An Israeli official confirmed that the security cabinet will meet on Tuesday, four U.S. and Israeli officials said Axles on Sunday that the deal was almost finalized.

On Monday, the Israeli government said it was close to a ceasefire with Hezbollah, but there were still some issues that needed to be addressed.

Meanwhile, Lebanese officials expressed cautious optimism, saying Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: wanted by the ICC on charges of crimes against humanityshould not be trusted.

The deputy speaker of Lebanon’s parliament, Elias Bou Saab, said a decisive moment was approaching, but he was not optimistic about the conclusion of the agreement.

“The balance is tilted slightly towards reaching (an agreement), but very little, because a person like Netanyahu cannot be trusted,” he said.

A second senior Lebanese official spoke on condition of anonymity Reutersstated that no new Israeli demands had been received in Beirut from American mediators, who described the atmosphere as positive and said that “matters are ongoing.”

The Israeli ambassador in Washington was quoted as saying that an agreement could be reached within days. CNN, citing a source, he said Netanyahu “in principle” approved the emerging agreement, but Israel still had reservations about some details.

These events come as Israeli airstrikes bombard Beirut’s southern suburbs.

On Monday, Israel threatened further strikes on buildings in the area and in the southern Lebanese city of Halta, ordering residents to leave the country.

The forced evacuation orders were issued a day after Hezbollah fired approximately 340 rockets and drones into Tel Aviv, causing major destruction.

Since October 7, 2023, Israeli attacks on Lebanon have killed at least 3,754 people and injured an additional 15,626.

This is a developing story.
