Father of missing Hawaii woman dies by suicide near LAX – NBC 7 San Diego

The missing Hawaiian woman’s father, Ryan Kobayashi, died by suicide, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The 58-year-old father was looking for his daughter, 30-year-old Hannah Kobayashi, after she missed her connecting flight to New York from LAX. According to her family, Hannah was scheduled to meet her family on November 8.

Police confirmed that Kobayashi died after jumping from a parking lot near LAX around 4 a.m. Sunday.

The Kobayashi family released a statement expressing their grief and asking the public to focus on the search for Hannah Kobayashi.

“The Kobayashi family experienced a devastating tragedy today,” the family said in a statement. “After 13 days of tireless searching in Los Angeles, Hannah’s father, Ryan Kobayashi, tragically took his own life. This loss greatly increased the family’s suffering.

“At this difficult time, what the family needs most is for all communities to rally around them with support, compassion and prayers. Please be considerate in your comments and posts. The trauma they endure is profound, and now they must face the added burden of “grieving the loss of a family pillar and taking the next steps.”

AND a vigil was held on Thursday outside the Crypto.com Arena for Hannahwhich is still missing.

On November 11, family members received strange text messages from Hannah that someone was trying to steal her identity. All calls that day went directly to voicemail. The family has not heard anything from her since then.

Surveillance footage shows Kobayashi boarding the subway at Pico Station on November 18 at 10 p.m.

“We’re trying to get them to take us seriously because it’s been 11 days,” said Laire Pidgeon, Kobayashi’s aunt. “Just because she’s not mentally ill and she’s not elderly doesn’t mean something hasn’t happened to her.”

Kobayashi was last seen wearing black leggings, a tie-dye sweatshirt and a green backpack.

Any information regarding her whereabouts should be reported to the Los Angeles Police Department.
