Six people arrested in Ggm, police confiscated over 1,100 bottles of alcohol on the way to Gujarat

Six suspects were arrested in Gurugram after police seized 1,146 bottles of liquor worth ₹25-30 lakh, allegedly intended for smuggling to Gujarat.

On Sunday evening, six suspects were arrested and 1,146 bottles of liquor were seized during a police raid at an isolated place in Gurugram’s Sector 32. The suspects were allegedly carrying the contraband in two trucks with the intention of smuggling it to Gujarat, police said on Monday. The estimated market value of the confiscated alcohol bottles is 25-30 lakh, investigators added.

According to the police, the raid was conducted by a team of the Sector 40 crime branch based on information received. Police identified the suspects as Sudhir Kumar of Samastipur, Bihar; Mohammad Shohib and Mumfed (having one name) alias Noli from Alwar in Rajasthan; and Bhupendra Yadav, Amit Kumar and Rampal from Raisen and Sagar districts in Madhya Pradesh.

Sandeep Kumar, Public Relations Officer, Gurugram Police, said, “Shohib brought a truck loaded with consignment of liquor to the spot. Bhupendra, Amit and Rampal would transfer the cartons to another vehicle for further smuggling to avoid detection by the police.”

Kumar added that Sudhir was the driver of the mini truck, Mumfed was the driver of the other vehicle and Shohib was its co-driver.

Investigators revealed that the suspects used various tactics to avoid detection. “The truck that brought the consignment to the site was additionally loaded with tiles and iron frames to cover the liquor cartons,” Kumar added. According to reports, loaders were tempted by promises of high wages, while drivers earned even more Police said the commission was $40,000 for each contraband, adding that they suspected the drivers had been involved in similar operations in the past.

Police said an FIR was registered under the Punjab Excise (Haryana Amendment) Act at Gurugram Sadar Police Station on Sunday based on a complaint lodged by a crime branch official. Police are currently investigating to identify and arrest the supplier and intended recipient of the shipment of illicit alcohol, she added.
